Switch Between The Dialog Box and The Command Line

Instead of using a dialog box or switching back again, you can display prompts on the command line. When you use scripts, this option is most useful.

Some functions can be accessed via the command line or the dialog box. Sometimes the options in the dialog box and those available on the command line might slightly differ.

These system variables also affect the display of dialog boxes:

• EXPERT controls whether certain warning dialog boxes are displayed.
• FILEDIA controls the display of dialog boxes used with commands that open and save files. For example, If FILEDIA is set to 0, OPEN displays prompts on the command line. If FILEDIA is set to 1, OPEN displays the "Select Files" dialog box. The procedures in this help assume that FILEDIA is set to 1. Even when FILEDIA is set to 0, you can display a file dialog box by entering a tilde (\~) at the first prompt.
• ATTDIA controls whether INSERT uses a dialog box for attribute value entry.
• CMDNAMES displays the name of the currently active command and transparent command.

EXPERT and FILEDIA are useful when you use scripts to run commands.
