The current linetype is shown in the Linetype control on the Properties toolbar and all objects you draw will use the current linetype.
You can also set the current linetype with the Linetype control. If you set current linetype to BYLAYER, all objects are created with linetype of current layer.
If you set the current linetype to BYBLOCK, objects use the CONTINUOUS linetype until the objects are grouped into a block. When the block is inserted into the drawing, those objects will use the current linetype. Lintypes for text, points, viewports, hatches and blocks are not displayed.
