XCLIP Command

Function Description:

This command is used to clip a selected external reference or block reference by clipping a specified boundary.
The clipping boundary determines the hidden part of a selected block reference or external reference. The visibility of the clipping boundary is controlled by the XCLIPFRAME system variable.
Tip: Users can use the CLIP command to clip images, external references, viewports and reference underlays.

Shortcut: Select an external reference and right-click, and then select Clip Xref

Command Prompts:

Select object:
Enter clipping option [ON/OFF/Clipdepth/Delete/generate Polyline/New boundary] \<New>:

ON

Displays the clipped part of the block reference or external reference in the current drawing.

OFF

Displays the integrated geometry of the block reference or external reference in the current drawing and ignores the clipping boundary.

Clipdepth

Specifies the front and back clipping planes for a block reference or external reference. It will not display objects outside of the defined region or the specified depth. The clip depth is applied on the plane that is parallel to the clipping boundary and has nothing with the current UCS.

• Clip point: Creates a clipping plane passing through the clip point and perpendicular to the clipping boundary.
• Distance: Creates a clipping plane by the specified distance and parallel to the clipping boundary.
• Remove: Removes the front and the back clipping planes.

Delete

Deletes a clipping boundary for the specified block reference or external reference. Users can use the OFF option to close the clipping boundary temporarily. The Delete option removes the clipping boundary and the clip depth. The ERASE command can not delete the clipping boundary.

generate Polyline

Generates a polyline automatically. This polyline is overlapped with the clipping boundary. It is set by the current layer, linetype, lineweight and color. Users can use the PEDIT command to edit the clipping boundary and redefine it.
Users can observe the whole external reference by turning off the clipping boundary when redefining the boundary.

New boundary

Specifies a rectangular or polygonal clipping boundary, or generates a polygonal clipping boundary from a polyline.

• Select polyline: Specifies the boundary by selecting existing polyline. This polyline can be open, but it must be a straight line and without intersection.
• Polygonal: Specifies a polygonal clipping boundary by three or more vertices of a polygon.
• Rectangular: Specifies a clipping boundary by a rectangle that created by two corner points.
• Invert clip: Inverts the clipping boundary mode: clips objects inside or outside of the boundary.

Note: Users can create a new boundary for a specified external reference underlay only after removing the old boundary.
