LAYWALK command


The LAYWALK command is used to display objects on selected layers and hide objects on other layers.

Command Access:

Ribbon : Home > Layer > LAYWALK
Menu : Format > Layer Tools > Layer Walk...
Command:  LAYWALK

Function Description:

The LAYWALK dialog box displays the list of all layers. According to the drawing with a lot of layers, users could filter the layer list. Users could use this command to check all objects on each layer and clear layers without reference. By default, the effect of LAYWALK command is temporary; it will restore all layers after closing the LAYWALK dialog box.

Relative Glossary:

Filter:
Open and close the active filter. Checking this option, it only displays the layers qualified active filter in the list. Without checking this option, it displays complete layer list. (If exists active filter, this option is available) Users could open an active filter by inputting wildcard characters and pressing ENTER, they could also select saved filters.

Layer List:
It displays layer list defined by filter when the filter is active.
If there is no active filter, it displays layer list in the drawing. Users could set the layer to be "Always display" by double-clicking it (there will be an asterisk added on the left). It could display more options by right-clicking. In the layer list, users could do the following operations:
Display the content of layer by clicking its name;
Double-clicking the layer name to open or close the "Always display" option;
Select more layers by clicking layer and pressing Ctrl;
Continues selection of layers by clicking layer and pressing Shift;
Double-clicking the layer list and pressing Ctrl or Shift to open or close the "Always display" option;
Select multiple layers by clicking and dragging layers in layer list. Any other options, users could access "Layer list" shortcut menu by right-clicking.

Hold Selection
Turn on the "Always display" option for selected layer. There will be an asterisk added on the left (*).

Release Selection
Turn off the "Always display" option for selected layer.

Release All
Turn off the "Always display" option for all layers.

Select All
Select and display all layers.

Clear All
Clear all layers.

Invert Selection
Clear the current layer; select and display all other layers.

Select Unreferenced
Select all unreferenced layers. Users could use the "Purge" button to delete unused layers.

Save Layer State
Save the current selection of layers as the layer states which could be used by layer state manager.

Inspect
Display the number of layers in drawing, the number of selected layers and number of objects on selected layer.

Copy as Filter
Display the name of selected layer in "Filter" text box. It could be used to create wildcard characters.

Save Current Filter
Save the current filter for reuse. Users could select this filter in filter list.

Delete Current Filter
Delete the current filter from filter list.

Select object
Select objects and their layers.

Filter list
Users could display and highlight all layer names which qualify the name and wild characters by inputting wild characters and pressing Enter. They could save and delete filters by right-clicking. The filter list only list saved filters.

Purge
Users could purge the unreferenced selected layers from drawing. According to the purge layer list, users could right-click on any position in the list and select "select unreferenced layer" option. It highlights the unreferenced layers in the list.

Restore on exit
Restore the layer state to be previous state when exiting the "Laywalk" dialog box. Without checking this option, it will save all changes.
