To Enter System Variables on the Command Line

How certain commands work, can be controlled by settings of the system variables.
With system variables, modes of Snap, Grid or Ortho can be turned on or off and default scales for hatch patterns can be set. Information about the current drawing and about program configuration can be stored with system variables. They are sometimes used to change a setting , sometimes to display the current status.
For example, if you change the value of FILLMODE system variable , the hatch display is turned on or off. The current date is stored by the DATE which is a read-only system variable, the value can be shown but not changed.
